the free body problem is an aotearoa based community journal/soapbox platforming an exploration of gender theory & philosophies.
in each issue, local poets unite against the binary gender system by presenting personal experiences through their poetry.
meet the team -
holly rowsell (she/her) is the founder of the free body problem! she is a poet, lover of cherries and student of philosophy and gender who lives in te whanganui-a-tara. she also edits the poetry journal nine lives. you can find her poems in catalyst, sweet mammalian and tarot, among other journals.
lauren mae (they/them) is a student and poet currently residing in pōneke. they have taken several creative writing courses at the international institute of modern letters, and received the michael king ‘signals’ young writer’s prize for poetry in 2023. their work has been published in various literary magazines, including tarot, circular magazine, and overcom. lauren primarily writes about ‘what-ifs’ and is prone to daydreaming.
